Rohr Plays It Safe Against Sierra Leone, Drops Dessers For Extra Defender As Victor Comes Back To The Nest
Coach Gernort Rohr has announced his 24-man Super Eagles squad that will face Sierra Leone for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-headers against Sierra Leone.
Amazingly the German is playing it safe and has invited more defenders than attackers despite Nigeria being clear cut favourites. The casualty here is Dessers who many Nigerians were expecting to play a more pronounced role in Benin after impressing in the few moments he had against Tunisia in his debut.
Instead Rohr has decided to go with nine defenders and just eight attackers. The defenders are:
Kenneth Omeruo (CD Leganes, Spain); Leon Balogun (Glasgow Rangers, Scotland); Chidozie Awaziem (FC Boavista, Portugal); William Ekong (Watford FC, England); Olaoluwa Aina (Fulham FC, England); Jamilu Collins (SC Padeborn 07, Germany); Oluwasemilogo Ajayi (West Bromwich Albion, England); Zaidu Sanusi (FC Porto, Portugal); Kevin Akpoguma (TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, Germany).
This has prompted a lot of speculation from fans especially on Social Media.
In any case, put on ice or standby defender Abdullahi Shehu, goalkeeper Francis Uzoho, midfielders Ramon Azeez and Samson Tijani, and forward Paul Onuachu.
Furthermore, the Nigerian midfield is expected to return to its fluidity again with the return of Glasgow Rangers Aribo. The other center field marshals are Oghenekaro Etebo (Galatasaray, Turkey); Tyronne Ebuehi (FC Twente, Netherlands); Frank Onyeka (FC Midtjylland, Denmark)

In goal as expected Maduka Okoye (above) made the cut in a move seen as to be him officially taking over the number one spot. While Akpeyi has refused to go away the major surprise is that Osigwe has now mothballed Uzoho.
But now to the juicy part and what must be causing the Leone star Coach John Kester nightmares namely the abundance of weapons Nigeria can deploy against Sierra Leone offensively.
Arrows in Rohr's quiver will include Ahmed Musa (Unattached); Alex Iwobi (Everton FC, England); Emmanuel Dennis Bonaventure (Club Brugge, Belgium); Moses Simon (FC Nantes, France); Samuel Chukwueze (Villarreal FC, Spain); Kelechi Iheanacho (Leicester City, England); and Chidera Ejuke (CSKA Moscow, Russia).
As if that was not enough Victor Oshimen is back in action after missing out on this month’s friendlies against Algeria and Tunisia.
The Eagles are set to gather at the Protea Hotel Emotan in Benin City on Monday, November 9th while the game will hold four days later on the 13th.
