Twitter the social media giant yesterday reported a series of technical issues with large numbers of users across the US, Europe and Africa unable to post tweets, access their timelines, or see notifications.
A notice posted on Twitter’s status page said the company was “Investigating Irregularity with Twitter APIs.”
According to DownDetector.com, reports of problems with Twitter began to spike just after 5:30 p.m. ET, and soared to over 45,000 by 5:42 p.m.
Twitter's support team said that it was working to resolve issues with the company's "internal systems" but that it had no evidence its systems were compromised by third parties.
"Twitter has been down for many of you and we're working to get it back up and running for everyone. We had some trouble with our internal systems and don't have any evidence of a security breach or hack," the company said.
As of this morning the page was functioning normally and is being monitored by the Awareness technical team.
