Ghanaian President Professor Nana Akufo-Addo Named New Chairman Of ECOWAS
Professor Nana Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana, has been elected as the new Chairman of the Economic Community of West Africa States at the ongoing 57th ECOWAS Summit in Niamey, Republic of Niger.
Earlier during the summit, President Buhari called on African leaders to stop elongating their tenure in office, saying it was becoming a source of trouble.
Akufo-Addo will have a lot on his plate to deal with out of which some of the most contentious issues are the introduction of the new monetary unit for the region which has the Francophone countries on one side and the Anglophones on the other , the ongoing political upheaval in Mali and the full blown trade war between Nigeria and Ghana.
