Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council, OYC, the Igbo socio-cultural group, has appealed to President Buhari to name the current 82nd Division stationed in Enugu, after the late Major General Thompson Aguiyi Ironsi.
It made this request while calling out former Military General, Theophilus Danjuma (Rtd) over the role he played in the 1966 Coup that led to the death of the ex-Military Head of State.
The Igbo group urged Danjuma (below) to apologise to the Igbo people and especially to the family of Late Major General Aguiyi Ironsi and ask for forgiveness.
OYC President, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro and Secretary-General, Okwu Nnabuike, in a press statement signed by both and released earlier today described the late Aguiyi Ironsi, as a patriot and the best among the finest military officers who made huge sacrifices for the existence of the country.
They further reiterated that Danjuma could rewrite history by tendering an unreserved apology to Ndigbo and further openly support Ndigbo for Nigeria’s presidency to right a wrong once done.
