Lawmakers who spoke in support of the executive bill titled “A bill for a law to repeal the Imo State governors and Speakers Pension and privileges law No 5 of 2007 (as amended)”, unanimously agreed that it was a necessary move to eliminate the pensions of ex-governors and speakers, so as to make the funds available for other developmental projects in the state.
One such a person was Chiji Collins the speaker of the house who agreed with the move though it will end up affecting him as well. He said that the sacrifice was necessary for the development of the state.
The bill was promptly passed into law after the lawmakers debated on it, and it now awaits the consent of the governor.
